Stats NZ publishes consumer prices as index levels, so every inflation rate here is calculated from the published index rather than read as a percentage; the source line on each says so. Gross domestic product annual growth is published as a percentage and is read, not derived. The freshest reading here is 2026 Q3 and the slowest 2024. Always check the official release before relying on a figure.
A narrower table, and why
Every figure below is reproduced from the data file Stats NZ attaches to its own releases. Money Snap adds no forecasts and no gap filling — but New Zealand offers less machine-readable data than the other markets on this site, and this page reflects that honestly.
Stats NZ has no data API
Its open data service returns a server error, its older statistics portal no longer resolves, and Infoshare is an interactive application with no stable address. What does work is the spreadsheet-style CSV attached to each release. This page is built from those files, which is why it covers the families whose file names can be found reliably and no others.
Inflation rates here are calculated
Stats NZ publishes the Consumers Price Index as index levels, not as percentage changes. Every inflation rate on this page is therefore worked out from the published index by comparing each quarter with the same quarter a year earlier. That is the standard calculation, but it is arithmetic done here rather than a number Stats NZ published, and each row says so.
Colour means direction, not judgement
Teal marks a rise on the previous published reading and red marks a fall. Whether that is welcome depends entirely on your position — faster housing inflation hurts a renter and can suit an owner — so the colour never implies good or bad.
